Welcome, newcomers! This is the parenting blog of Lizz from the YouTube channel Sister Salad (best known for our pro-grammar, anti-hater rap parody music video "Yo Comments Are Wack"). I had my first child in April 2014, and I have created this site as a forum for exploring and sharing my parenting thoughts and experiences.
Why Momato?
Sister Salad fans will recognize "Momato" as the salad-themed code name for our mother, as well as for mothers in general. This term (a portmanteau of "mom" and "tomato") comes from the very moment that the name "Sister Salad" was invented -- one time my sisters and I were all lounging together on the same bed. Key Themes You Can Expect
Though I plan to explore a wide range of topics here, there are a few key areas my passions and proclivities will most frequently draw me to. These are:
- Gender roles - I'm generally against them, so there will be a fair amount of discussion about why I think they're problematic, places I notice them cropping up, and ways to protect kids from their detrimental effects
- Organizational systems and strategies - As a certified "J" in the Meyers-Briggs typology, I like to have things planned and structured, and the parenting arena is no exception
- Fostering creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking - Because you can take the teacher out of the school, but you can't take the teacher out of the parent.
